Not getting selected in a campus recruitment is definitely a turn off factor for students, especially when the competition is stiff and a comparably less good student get selected leaving behind well known better and constant academic performers. Students start blaming their placement officer of being partial or even accuse companies for faking recruitment in the guise of publicity and propaganda of their company brand. Trust me guys, above accusations are baseless on majority of cases. Well we don’t deny completely but that’s rare. Companies make a budget for its marketing and brand promotion activities; they spend (on average) approximately 10% of their overall budgets on marketing. This is a huge amount. And I don’t believe companies do campus recruitment for brand promotion.
And if you blame your college/ institute placement officer of being partial, again it’s a topic of debate which ends up with almost no conclusion.
So what are the parameters of the selection process?
Apart from your constant academic performance, recruiters would judge your credibility from your technical skill. How you perform on that particular day really matters to the recruiter. They will judge your confidence level and personality. And finally how successful you are in presenting yourself before the interviewer really varies to the end result.
Tips to do better in campus recruitment:
- Keep brushing up of your technical knowledge.
- Read basic interview techniques from online career journals or magazines.
- On many occasions students get nervous and they don’t really perform to their best. So feel confident about yourself and about your skill.
- Read about the companies from their official websites before they conduct face-to-face interview.
- Practice aptitude test (verbal reasoning, English test, data sufficiency, syllogisms, data interpretation etc.), general awareness and current affairs related to your education.
- Time management is crucial as you get less than 1 minute for each question.
- Be professional while making your resume. Don’t need to add extra formats like table, images, colors etc. Keep it simple, unique and professional.
- Remember more than 50% of your questions come from your resume. Read your own resume several times before the interview and make sure your resume representing the real you. Interviewers commonly ask about your hobbies. Be careful while choosing because the interviewer can ask to any depth.
- The true purpose of a campus recruitment interview is to know candidate’s personality, attitude and confidence. So stay cool.
